If you ever lose the admin password to your Vista box, you may well think you’re screwed. However, there’s a (relatively) simple way to gain enough access to the machine to add another admin account, from which you can then log in to reset the “regular” Administrator’s account.
The procedure essentially rests on the idea of booting the machine with a disk-based Linux distribution, and then using that to replace the Utility Manager with the Command Processor cmd.exe, and invoking the latter at boot-time. Full details at whatsmypass.com.
